RICHARD RODRIGUEZ

American roller coaster enthusiast is fast becoming a TV star thanks to his world record attempt.

Just over two weeks into his 103-plus consecutive days of riding the Big One, Richard is battling the elements and smiling for the numerous cameras which continue to roll into Blackpool Pleasure Beach.

He is also making lots of friends with riders of the UK’s tallest and steepest roller coaster and is always willing for his big US grin to appear on hundreds of pictures being taken by Pleasure Beach guests.

“I love the attention I am getting,” says Richard, “Spending all day strapped into the biggest roller coaster in Britain is a huge challenge but the support and encouragement I am getting from the public is fantastic.

“They help me cope with the changing weather conditions and it’s always great to tell them about my challenge and what I have been facing.

“I have also been doing quite a few TV interviews for loads of channels so it’s great that people are interested in what I am doing.”

Away from the roller coasters, Richard is taking a keen interest in Euro 2012, taking in a few soccer games on his down-time from the Big One.

“I’ve been watching a few games,” adds Richard, “England did well against France and now that I am adopted resident for the summer I am looking forward to them doing well in the rest of the tournament.”
