Urban Art

Blackpool Pleasure Beach is set to splash a little more colour over the next week as urban art appears on a section of its iconic façade!

Urban street artist Rocket01has been working with designers at the 42-acre amusement park to come up with a creative piece of artwork for part of Ocean Boulevard.

The Sheffield-based artist will start work on the creation on Bank Holiday Monday and will complete the mural in time for the Illuminations Switch On on August 31.

The artwork is similar to that which has been springing up around central Blackpool, around the Winter Gardens and Adelaide Street.

Blackpool Pleasure Beach Creative Director Antony Johns was introduced to Rocket01, also known as Chris Butcher, by Robin Ross, the brains behind the central Blackpool Banksy-esque murals.

Rocket01 began working with graffiti in the 1980s on abandoned buildings around Sheffield and this is one of his biggest public pieces of artwork he has been commissioned to carry out.

He has also worked with Faunagraphic, painting murals for Converse footwear in Manchester City Centre, UGG Australia and Channel 4.

Antony Johns, Creative Director, said: “At Blackpool Pleasure Beach we are always looking for new talent and when we were introduced to Rocket01 we knew we had found something special.

“Ocean Boulevard has always been a bright and inviting place to visit but we wanted to add some more warmth and colour for those visitors walking along the Promenade.

“The design depicts Blackpool Pleasure Beach perfectly and we are all excited to see the finished project.”
