Big Blue Throws a Lifeline
23/10/2006
to Blackpool’s Royal National Lifeboat Association, to assist with crew training and help save lives in the resort.
The generous amount, from an anonymous hotel guest, was donated to Hotel General Manager Neal Tripp’s chosen charity after him and his team ‘lavished them with exceptional care and attention’ during their stay.
The tip came with strings attached though - Neal had to carry out a challenge to wear traditional Blackpool flashing bunny ears to a Pleasure Beach executive meeting to seal the deal.
Neal nominated the RNLI to receive the cash as he has worked with them extensively in the past, and feels they deserve more recognition for the invaluable work they do in the seaside town.
The RNLI is a charity that provides a 24-hour lifesaving service around the UK and Republic of Ireland. Since the RNLI was founded in 1824, its lifeboats have saved more than 137,000 lives. In 2005 RNLI lifeboats rescued 8,104 people - an average of 22 people per day. RNLI Lifeguards assisted 9,930 people.
