Come experience the ups and downs of walking alongside the tracks of a classic Wooden Rollercoaster!
This unique experience usually reserved for our specialist engineers is now available to rollercoaster fans!
The Big Dipper, our classic wooden rollercoaster has been thrilling guests in one form or another since 1923. The ride was extended in 1936 and has kept the ride footprint since then. The iconic sight of the blue and white ‘onion’ on top of the rides’ lift hill is a nostalgic sight for many.
If you like adventure and want an exhilarating experience that gives a unique insight into how a wooden rollercoaster is maintained, we are offering a limited number of adventurers the opportunity to step up and down the boards of this ride!
With some amazing photo opportunities along the way – this is the experience for you!

Some important points to note:
Walk the Woodie takes place on the Big Dipper. Only part of the ride’s circuit is walked during the experience, not the complete ride layout.
This activity may not be suitable for everyone. The walk is a physically demanding activity including steep climbs, drops, heights and the surface can be uneven, dirty and slippery. Exposed nails and both rough and sharp edges are part of the nature of a wooden rollercoaster structure. Suitable sturdy footwear such as walking boots with a good grip must be worn in order to participate – these are not supplied.
Participants must attend and understand a safety briefing before attempting the walk, and must also successfully complete a practical training section on the lower part of the structure prior to commencing the walk. Participants must able to walk unaided, hold onto a handrail and use our prescribed safety clothing and harnesses.
Weather can impact this experience and wet and/or windy or stormy weather may result in postponement or cancellation. In all instances, if the decision is made to cancel the experience we will attempt to contact participants as soon as possible.
